Using a VPN to play online poker from Asia is banned outright by every major room serving the region. GGPoker, Natural8 and WPT Global each name VPNs and proxies in their terms, and the stated penalty is not a slap on the wrist — it is a permanent ban with your balance confiscated. The part most players miss: if you live in Southeast or East Asia, you almost certainly do not need one, and switching your IP is far more likely to lock your account than to open a table.
What the rulebooks actually say
GGPoker treats it as a material breach. Its terms and conditions allow termination on “reasonable suspicion that you have intentionally tried to circumvent or influence our Checks… (e.g. by using VPN or any other services or software to hide your location).” Where that is invoked, the room confiscates bonus money, forfeits winnings, and returns only the real-money remainder.
Natural8 spells out an escalation ladder in its Security & Ecology Policy, which prohibits “the use of VPN/PROXY, remote desktops, or any alternative methods used to mask one’s actual location and/or identity in order to play from a prohibited region.” A first offence may draw a warning or temporary ban; repeat or serious breaches carry a permanent ban and/or confiscation. The same policy bans remote-desktop and screen-share tools while the client is open.
WPT Global is equally blunt. Its terms forbid “any attempt to hide or mask your location, which includes without limitation: Use of a VPN, proxy or geolocation service or application to hide, mask or alter the location or the identity of the device used to access the Site.”
The IP address is the easy part to check
Players assume detection means an IP lookup. It is the first filter, not the last. Commercial VPN endpoints sit in known data-centre ranges that get flagged automatically, but what actually catches people is the mismatch: device language and timezone, handset SIM country, and above all the payment trail. A GCash, PromptPay or KakaoPay deposit landing against a Frankfurt IP is a contradiction no security team ignores.

Stop reconnecting through the tunnel — repeat attempts move you up the penalty ladder rather than resetting it. Disable the VPN at operating-system level, restart the router, and log in from your ordinary home connection. When support asks for Proof of Presence, send documents for your real permanent address and answer plainly; arguing jurisdiction reads as evasion. Assume any pending withdrawal stays frozen until the review closes. And if your country genuinely is on the excluded list, request account closure and a return of funds rather than pushing — that path sometimes ends with your money back.
