Poker Dream 25 got under way on July 23 at Resorts World Genting, handing Malaysia its biggest tournament festival of the year: a MYR 4,000,000 guaranteed Main Event inside a schedule of more than 80 tournaments that runs until August 3. It is the 25th stop for the Poker Dream brand and only the second time the tour has set up in the Genting Highlands, a hill-station casino complex sitting about an hour north of Kuala Lumpur.
The eleven-day programme is deliberately wide. Buy-ins start at freerolls and Milestone Satellites priced from MYR 160, and top out at a MYR 20,000 Super High Roller, so a player arriving with a few hundred ringgit and a player arriving with a five-figure bankroll are both catered for in the same room.
Malaysia Open opens the festival
First blood went to the Malaysia Open, a MYR 1,000 to MYR 1,500 event carrying a MYR 1,500,000 guarantee across flights from July 23 to 25. Putting the cheapest big-guarantee tournament at the front of the schedule is a familiar Poker Dream move — it fills the room early, seeds satellite winners into the later events, and gives local recreational players a shot at the festival’s second-largest prize pool before the buy-ins climb.
Main Event flights begin July 28
The headline MYR 4,000,000 Main Event offers two entry routes: MYR 3,200 for a 20,000 starting stack or MYR 4,800 for 30,000 chips. Flights run July 28 through August 1, with Day 2 on August 2 and the final day on August 3. The tiered-stack structure has become standard on the Asian circuit and tends to widen fields, since short-bankroll players can take the cheaper seat and satellite qualifiers can be funnelled into either tier.
Overlapping the Main Event flights are the festival’s two high-roller offerings — a MYR 12,000 High Roller on July 28 and 29, and the MYR 20,000 Super High Roller on July 30 and 31 — plus a MYR 3,000 Mystery Bounty with a MYR 400,000 guarantee spread across July 28 to 30.
Genting’s timing is no accident
Late July has become congested in the Asia-Pacific calendar. Poker Dream 25 shares the window with the July K Poker Cup, which starts today at LES A Casino in Jeju and runs to August 10, and it wraps up just as APPT Manila’s ₱132 million festival gets going at Okada from July 28. For travelling players in the region, that is three sizeable stops within a fortnight and a genuine choice about where to spend a July bankroll.
Genting’s pitch is proximity. Resorts World Genting is the only integrated casino resort in Malaysia and draws heavily from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and southern Thailand — a catchment that does not need a long-haul flight or a visa run to show up. That matters for guarantees: a MYR 4 million promise on a MYR 3,200 buy-in needs volume rather than a handful of high rollers, and a domestic crowd is the cheapest volume there is.
