USOP Vietnam 2026 is a 90+ event festival running August 27 to September 9 at the InterContinental Halong Bay Resort, with VND 120 billion (roughly US$4.6M) guaranteed across the schedule. The VND 30,000,000 Main Event carries a VND 30 billion guarantee and plays out September 5-9. A second, larger Ha Long Bay festival — the USOP Grand Championship — follows on October 22 to November 4 with VND 160 billion guaranteed.

The U Series of Poker has quietly become one of the more interesting stops on the Asian circuit, largely because it does something most tours do not: it parks itself in a resort on a UNESCO bay for two solid weeks at a time. Here is what the 2026 run actually looks like, what it costs, and the one rule about Vietnam that catches players out.

Two Ha Long Bay festivals, one Osaka detour

USOP’s back half of 2026 is built around three dates:

  • USOP Vietnam Series — August 27 to September 9, InterContinental Halong Bay, VND 120B GTD
  • U Series Championship Osaka — October 2 to 6, Dojima River Forum, Japan
  • USOP Grand Championship Vietnam — October 22 to November 4, InterContinental Halong Bay, VND 160B GTD

The Osaka leg is the odd one out: five days rather than fourteen, in a riverside convention hall rather than a resort. It is a concentrated championship squeezed between the two Vietnamese festivals, and it reflects how fast Japan’s live scene is opening up alongside the country’s amusement poker rooms.

For anyone planning travel, the two Vietnam festivals are seven weeks apart at the same venue. If you are choosing one, the October-November Grand Championship carries the bigger guarantee; the August-September series is the cheaper flight and the quieter room.

What the headline events cost

Buy-ins are quoted in dong, which makes them look enormous until you convert. At roughly VND 26,100 to the dollar in August 2026:

  • Main Event — VND 30M (~US$1,150), VND 30B GTD (~US$1.15M), Sept 5-9
  • Championship Event — VND 25M (~US$960), VND 20B GTD (~US$765K)
  • Billionaire Club Challenge — VND 165M (~US$6,320), VND 5B GTD
  • Super High Roller — VND 88M (~US$3,370), VND 3.2B GTD
  • Ha Long Bay Open Cup — VND 20M (~US$766), VND 1.5B GTD
  • Opening Day Massive — VND 8.8M (~US$337), VND 2.5B GTD

The Opening Day event is the tell. A sub-$350 buy-in with a ~US$96K guarantee is aggressive overlay bait, and it is scheduled on day one specifically to fill the room. That pricing sits well below an APT Main Event and in the same neighbourhood as the smaller Poker Dream stops.

The Vietnam rule nobody mentions in the schedule

Vietnam treats tournament poker as an intellectual sport, run through the Vietnam Bridge and Poker Federation, and tournament entries are legal on that basis. Winnings attract a 10% income tax. Cash games in city clubs are a different story — they are prohibited, and raids have happened.

The bigger practical issue is who may sit down. Most Vietnamese poker clubs and casinos are foreigners-only. A government pilot scheme lets Vietnamese citizens aged 21+ who can prove monthly income of at least VND 10M play cash games, but only at Corona Casino on Phu Quoc and The Grand Ho Tram. Ha Long Bay is not on that list. If you hold a Vietnamese passport, confirm your eligibility with USOP directly before booking anything — do not assume a tournament entry works the same way as a casino floor.

Getting there, and what the trip really adds to your buy-in

Ha Long is about two and a half hours by road from Hanoi’s Noi Bai airport, and the expressway has made that a genuinely easy transfer rather than the old half-day slog. Most players fly into Hanoi, share a car, and stay on-property.

Budget honestly. A two-week festival at a five-star resort is not a Manila grind trip: room nights, food and transfers can quietly match a Main Event buy-in. The players who do well out of these festivals tend to arrive for a targeted five-day window around the events they actually want, not the full fortnight.

Satellites and building the roll online

USOP runs its calendar, points and promotions through its own app rather than a partner poker network, and the official U Series site is where satellite and package details get posted first. There is no publicly listed online room feeding seats into Ha Long Bay, so treat any third-party “USOP qualifier” claim with suspicion until the tour confirms it.

What most Asia-based players actually do is build a live bankroll on a global room and then buy in directly. Natural8 and GGPoker both run cheap satellite ladders into their own live festivals, and the same daily grind funds a Vietnam trip just as well — see our Vietnam room comparison for what is actually reachable from a local bank card.

If a MoMo or bank transfer deposit is what is standing between you and a satellite seat, message @PAGDaddyBot on Telegram — it will point you at the payment routes that are still clearing for Vietnam right now.
